Back in October 2018, the storm ‘Adrian’ has hit South Tyrol badly. With a wind speed up to 140 km/h and up to 400 mm rain it had a deep impact on the area. Killing an estimated number of 14 million trees.

With the hiking trails covered with as much as 50-60 cm snow, the natural way to hike the trails is using snowshoes. Two days ago an extra 10-15 cm snow arrived, and the trails are just amazing. Here are a few impressions from the snowshoe hike today:

The Lago di Carezza (German: Karersee) is an emerald green mountain lake in the Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy. It not only features an amazing emerald color: there is a legend and fairy tale too about it.
Fane Alm
This winter in the Alps is very dry and warm. Because there is no snow it is excellent to do some hiking instead. I’m closing the year with the family in the Italian part of the Alps, and we visited today the Fane Alm, a seasonal alpine pasture. The most beautiful small alpine village I ever have seen. It is located at the top end of the valley of Vals, South Tyrol, Italy.
