Lakeside View

Image

It was a very warm (32°C) and beautiful summer Sunday. Spent some time at the ‘house lake’. The picture shows a view over Lake Lauerz to my home village on the other side:

Far to the left the Rigi, with the Rossberg in the middle. On the left of the Rossberg is the rock slide area from 1806 (see “Hacking the Heating System for Cooling – Geothermal Drilling with extra Benefits“). On the right the Spiegelberg and then far to the right part of the Mythen.

Sunday and Rain is Coming …

Image

It is Sunday morning, and the sun shines into the valley of Schwyz. It looks like it could be a beautiful Sunday, but the weather forecast predicts clouds and rain for the afternoon. So I make a panorama shot to the west to my home village and the Rigi mountain int the background. Rain is coming soon…

Grand Prismatic Spring

The Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest and one of the most brilliant of the many springs in Yellowstone. The temperature of the water is around 60°C. The yellow, orange and brown colors are caused by small heat-loving microorganisms, names thermophiles. The intense blue color in the center is because of the sunlight gets scattered by fine particles in the water. Simply beautiful!

Hot Spring Colors

Image

I worked the past weekend and nights using the Freescale FRDM-K64F board with the colorful Adafruit NeoPixels (see “Tutorial: Adafruit WS2812B NeoPixels with the Freescale FRDM-K64F Board – Part 1: Hardware“). These RGB LEDs can create beautiful colors. For for the non-geeky readers I have a more ‘natural’ one:

The beautiful colors in Yellowstone National Park (USA) are the result of pigmented bacteria that grow around the edges of the mineral rich water. I very much enjoyed it a few years ago, cannot wait to get back there.

Hrad Veveří Castle

I’m visiting Brno in the Czech Republic which is the second largest city of the country. A bit outside of the town there is the is the Veveří Castle. Got there in the evening, and the castle was about to be closed to the public, so I was able to take a few pictures only. The sunlight painted the castle in a nice color:

Field Art Link Star in Memory of Agent BBJ

Yesterday night, in a cross faction Ingress operation, agents from different places in Switzerland created a virtual Field Art Star for the recently passed agent BBJ (BigBigJerk) Andreas Lander. Agents from both factions worked together to create a gigantic link star in Switzerland. Watch the video of its creation:

The Lost Bell Tower of Graun in Lake Reschen

On our motorbike tour through the Alps this weekend, we visited Italy, Austria and of course many summits in Switzerland. On the way from Italy to Austria we visited Lake Reschen (or Lago di Resia), an artificial Lake in South Tyrol, Italy, south of the Reschen Summit. The lake is famous for the bell tower of a 14th-century church: the tower is all what remains from the submerged village of Graun, and it probably Italy’s most famous drowned town:

Impressions from Freescale Technology Forum 2015

With Freescale merged into NXP, I guess this was the last FTF (Freescale Technology Forum) after a history of 10 years. Maybe it will transform into a ‘NTF’, at least I hope that such an energizing event and conference will continue in the new NXP area. I was busy with delivering my own sessions, but had time to meet and greet and see a lot of interesting stuff. After visiting the TechLab several times and after all the discussions with other embedded enthusiasts I have now many cool projects in mind :-).

So what I do here is to share some impressions with pictures and videos. It will take me weeks to absorb everything. Not to talk about the huge email backlog I have now ;-). So enjoy:
