The Dolomites are full of legend and fairy tales (see “The Legend and the Fairy Tale of Lago di Carezza“), and one is about King Laurin and his Rose Garden. In this day hike we visited Haniger Schwaige hut, located below the Torri del Vajolet (Vajoletttürme, 2813 m) and Croda di Re Laurino (König-Laurin-Wand, 2813 m).

The Lago di Carezza (German: Karersee) is an emerald green mountain lake in the Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy. It not only features an amazing emerald color: there is a legend and fairy tale too about it.
Fane Alm
This winter in the Alps is very dry and warm. Because there is no snow it is excellent to do some hiking instead. I’m closing the year with the family in the Italian part of the Alps, and we visited today the Fane Alm, a seasonal alpine pasture. The most beautiful small alpine village I ever have seen. It is located at the top end of the valley of Vals, South Tyrol, Italy.
The Lost Bell Tower of Graun in Lake Reschen
On our motorbike tour through the Alps this weekend, we visited Italy, Austria and of course many summits in Switzerland. On the way from Italy to Austria we visited Lake Reschen (or Lago di Resia), an artificial Lake in South Tyrol, Italy, south of the Reschen Summit. The lake is famous for the bell tower of a 14th-century church: the tower is all what remains from the submerged village of Graun, and it probably Italy’s most famous drowned town:
