For this Christmas time I wanted to create a special gift box for a special neighbor family.

The idea was to put sweets into a ‘book style’ lasercut box, engraved with an angel theme.

I created two versions of the design in Inkscape: one painted and one engraved only. The boxes have a side latch.

It took me two iterations and a few tweaks to get it right. Watering the live hinge helped to bend it without breaking it.

The box then gets filled with Hauggrüessli:

I used a 50W Lasercutter with LightBurn to engrave and cut it usint 4 mm Birch Plywood sheets:

Then the box get sanded and the surface protected with bee wax, ready to be filled with the sweets:
